General Risks for Conductors of the Underground Railroad
There were many risks associated with the underground, especially to the conductors. If these conductors were caught they would face harsh punishments and imprisonment. The African Americans faced the worst of these, they were to be hung or even burned alive. The white men and women were also harshly punished, but much less that the African Americans. The whites were usually whipped and imprisoned, women often got lesser punishments than men of both races.
